12/16/2007 - Virginia Wood, of Groton, declared her candidacy for State Representative of the 1st Middlesex District on December 16, 2007. The First Middlesex District is comprised of the towns of Groton, Townsend, Ayer, Pepperell and Dunstable.

Wood meets with local Dems to discuss issues

Recently, candidate for state representative Virginia Wood met with local Pepperell Democrats. Wood spoke about some of the challenges facing the area, as well as her vision for the First Middlesex District.

Ms. Wood said,

"The future offers many great opportunities. Our district has the opportunity to have a state representative who will be an advocate for the environment, who understands how state policies on housing, transportation, and education are key to economic development and quality of life in this district."
She added,
"I will work bring a new level of energy to the position and work hard for all the people in the First Middlesex. "

Wood went on to talk about the struggle towns are confronting with how to pay for town services, school districts are once again faced with over rides, and the impact of the weak local economy on residents, businesses and our municipalities.

Wood stated that she is the best candidate because she brings the education, experience working in municipal government, private business, and environmental non-profits to the position of state representative.

Wood received her Masters in Business from Babson College, served two terms on the Board of Selectmen in Groton, served on the Planning Board, owns and operates her own business in Littleton, Ken's American Café, as well as having worked for the Fundamental Action to Conserve Energy and the City of Fitchburg.

The general election is in November and Wood looks forward to campaigning in the district over the next 9 months.
